Our site runs on WordPress, the best blogging software in the Universe, bar none. We’re really, really glad that Matt Mullenweg invented the thing. Got something to say to the world? Head on over to WordPress.org and get a copy of WordPress for your very own.
The EvoLve theme that we’re using was written by Blogatize, and you can pick
up a copy for your WordPress site from the good folks at Theme4press. There’s a commercial version of the EvoLve theme with many more features, but we use the free version which is licensed under the GPL. Y’know, we’d love to donate but we’re so broke we can barely pay attention; we hope our thanks and appreciation (as well as this mention) will suffice.

Our sites are hosted by HostGator these days, using one of their shared hosting packages. We started the site on Go Daddy way back when and stuck with them until near the end of March, 2011. We figure that’s probably long enough that they at least deserve a mention here. Our HostGator account runs under Linux CentOS on Apache Web server software and, when necessary, the MySQL DBMS.
The cute little animated mail slot icon that appears at the bottom of every page to remind you how you can reach us via email was provided by the fine folks over at wilsoninfo.com. We think it’s kind of interesting that an image that’s represented paper mail pretty much ever since there’s been paper mail has come to be synonymous with electronic mail. Anyway, Wilson Info has been doing free clip art since 1997, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Go get some for yourself.
Our RINOS site runs on the insanely popular (and, consequently, malware-writers’ target) Joomla! CMS. Whenever you choose to use a CMS it’s essential that you keep current with patches and revisions, or else. So Pam took
the initiative and did an admirable job of porting the horribly, horribly broken v1 installation to the current version. Along the way she discovered that the old template hadn’t been kept up either so she chose a free Purple Sky template from the fine folks over at SiteGround.
An Emacs-like editor called Epsilon (Lugaru Software, Ltd.) was used extensively in getting this site to where it is today. If there’s anything that needs to be done with text – anything, you name it – then Emacs either does that thing already or can be taught to do it. It’s COTS, but Lugaru offers a full-featured trial for the asking.
Many of the images used here were manipulated using the ever-so-popular Photoshop software from Adobe. Photoshop is the, ummm, well, the Emacs of image manipulation software.
When the time came to do things involving money, we chose to hook up
with PayPal. Paypal makes it easy to securely accept donations online without the hassle and expense of a full-featured merchant account. Hey! I’ve got a great idea! Why not try it out right now by donating a few bucks to the team?
